The small size of the Light Freighter somewhat reduces its value as a cargo vessel, but it may be valuable as a unit operating near enemy territory, where Alyssian sensors may have difficulty detecting its presence. Its stripped-down design makes it considerably cheaper to produce than its successor, the Heavy Freighter.
