Character creation in ToEE
Today Brandon Smith, Senior Brand Manager at Atari Los Angeles, provided us with some brand new screenshots showing the character creation process in ToEE. So I decided to create a small demonstration of how character creation works in ToEE! Note that you can click onto the thumbnails to see a high-res screenshot

The Character Pool
As you can see ToEE allows us to create a pool of characters. This is especially interesting for people that like to create dozens of characters before deciding which they would like to add to their party. During the game you can also travel back to Hommlet to replace characters who died during your adventures.

Let's create Ms. Point Buy
The first character will be generated using the point buy method.


Instead of generating the stats by rolling dice ToEE also allows the point buy method. You can assign 25 points to improve the stats of your character. By spending those points you can "buy" your character's stats. Also the ability bonusses are shown here.



Now let's choose a race for our character! ToEE lets us choose between all the player races from the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition Player's Handbook. As you can see the game provides us with a short description of the selected race and informs the player about the corresponding racial traits.



After selecting the character's race you have to choose if your character will be male or female. In Dungeons & Dradons 3.5 edition male and female characters are equal when the game mechanics are concerned and you can play a male or female character regardless of your race. Of course the gender will have influence in dialogs and quests.


Since ToEE uses 3D models as character avatars, you can use a slider to adjust your character's height. As far as I know, ToEE is the first computer roleplaying game (aside from MMORPGs) that allows the player to chosse the height of your character!



You can even further customize the appearance of your character by choosing a hairstyle and haircolor.
