We got a new Rant? Wow!
Posted by TheVirtu @ 1:15AM EDT

Here's a submittal I got a few days ago for a rant to be put up here on DSC. A rant submitted by an "unknown" player talking about how he/she hates the $|P (Shadow Pirates) Fleet in Darkspace. You can find this rant in our Rants section.

It's Coming: MetaVerse Watch - Staff Hiring
Posted by TheVirtu @ 12:41AM EDT

I've had this idea for a while, back when the site was still a young little piece of coding. Metaverse Watch, think of it as the real news of Darkspace, what goes on in the Metaverse. Reports from the factions on the battles, inside screenies of the action. Just to keep those who can't be in the Metaverse 24/7 and the outsiders informed on what's going on in the Metaverse that makes Darkspace a MMOG. This is something that Darkspace.net should already have .

But, to do something such as this, I will need to hire a full compliment of newsies to report this news on The Darkspace Connection website. I am currently looking for 6-8 active Metaverse players, perferably from different factions todo the following:

* Just play the Metaverse like you always do! Then do reports on the action that's occured and perhaps throw in some screenshots of it. Every battle report doesn't have to be an essay. Some might just be two or three sentences giving a basic report that so and so captured a system.

* You don't have todo a battle report of every little thing your faction or other factions do, do what you want or can, but perferrably a good number of reports per week.

* Don't lie like a seven-year old in the news, please?

This is an idea I will be continuing to mold into something even greater in the future if Darkspace becomes better and gets more players.

If you wish to sign up for a newsie position in the DSC MetaVerse Watch, post a reply with your name, Darkspace ID number, Age, Faction, and why you wish to be a newsie in this darkspace.net forum thread, or email me at dsc@3dactionplanet.com.

Darkspace Back Online
Posted by TheVirtu @ 7:47PM EDT

Well, it just came back up, apparently it was only the website and the lobby that went offline for the past two and a half hours. But those who actually remained ingame the entire time wouldn't have noticed a thing.

Darkspace Offline?
Posted by TheVirtu @ 5:29PM EDT

I've just noticed that I can't access the Darkspace lobby, or the website...or anything for that matter. So, basically, as much as I know, the server's are all screwed up.

You know the drill, you can head over to the DSC Chatroom or our forums.

MV News: ICC Faction Defeated
Posted by TheVirtu @ 3:33PM EDT

The ICC faction in the Darkspace metaverse has been decimated by the UGTO. Earlier this morning their last planet was captured by the UGTO, though a few hours later, a few remaining players with ships in their gate attempted to retake their home planet cluster, and did, for about twenty minutes. UGTO warships immediately entered the area and attempted to recapture the planet, battle ensued for an amount of time. A deep-strike K'luth fleet then appeared near the planet and began marching toward the home planet cluster. A three way brawl then ensued, with all three factions landing infantry on Exathra, K'luth captured the planet for a short amount of time, but then UGTO troops overwhelmed the planet's surface and it was captured for the UGTO. K'luth forces fell back and the decimated ICC left the area.

News Galore!
Posted by TheVirtu @ 7:15PM EDT

Wow, it seems like we actually have lots of news! *passes out on the floor*

To start out with, the Darkspace Event Staff are now looking for North-American volunteers who wish to help out with the events in the future. You can find the signup thread here.

Next up, the first announced Event by the Event Staff, Kill the Station!...(you'd think the event would be to think up a better name for the event :) ), but anyways, the basics behind this event are two teams, ICC, and UGTO, with ten ships each, will each fight an AI Super Station, first to destroy it wins. But there's a catch, nothing above destroyer-class, and light-supply ships only.

The event will be held on Darkspace on June 6th, 2004 at 3:00pm EST. You may find the signup thread here.

And finally, the second announced event by the staff today. This event, if you could consider it, is a Banner contest to replace that little front banner image on the darkspace.net homepage. This is a ongoing contest in which banners may be submitted anytime. Dimensions of the banner are to be the same as the one now (600x130 pixels), and may be in jpg, gif, png, or swf.

You can submit banners by posting them in this thread or by sending them by email to shigernafy@palestar.com.

New Article - The State of DSC/Darkspace...
Posted by TheVirtu @ 2:48PM EDT

Well, wow, a new article? Who saw that coming.

I've written an article about my opinion on the current state of Darkspace and this website, and what I think the future holds for both. This is a good read if you are a Darkspace player, here's a small quote from it.

"...have fun. And over the months the site's popularity increased over Darkspace and the Gamespy Network, reaching a record 7,000 hits in August of 2003, and a record 10,000 hits in March of 2004. Yes, the site has done well while the game has done well, but the game is beginning to decay...

If you want to take a look at it, here's the link. If you have any comments on the article you can post in this forum thread.

Darkspace Petition Started
Posted by TheVirtu @ 5:15PM EDT

A petition to Faustus to release the game's code to the developers has been started by Darkspace player, Unknown Warrior. In the past day that the thread has been posted, there are over 50-60 signatures, here's a bit of the thread.

Its simple; Faustus, since you ahve your work at DSA, and its hard to keep track of things going on in DS, we ask and plea that you release the main source codes to the Development teams so this game can continue to grow and mature as you have visioned.

This would in turn bring the game out of the state it is in right now, heck, it might even rival a lot of other games out there if we had a full team working on the Development of this great game.

So all i ask is for other members of Darkspace, reguardless if ive had quarels with them in the past or not, and some of which i dont know.

But i am simply asking you sign the petition for the Main game Codes so we can do two things: Lift the load of Faustus's shoulders, and help maintaine and keep the game developing at a steady pace...

If you'd like to sign the petition or just take a look at the entire petition, you can get to it by using this link.

Galactic Navy Bids Farewell
Posted by TheVirtu @ 5:11PM EDT

The long active Galactic Navy fleet active in Darkspace has announced its soon dissolution, as I am a member of this fleet also, it will be a sad loss, though we feel that it is time. Here's an exercpt from the farewell announcement thread.

What I will say is this: As the years have gone by and I’ve slowly changed my ways when it comes to leading the fleet, I often get a chuckle out of what my “former self”, the one who started the fleet on Dec 9, 2001, would say. It’s always, without fail, something along the lines of “What the HELL are you thinking, moron? Do you realize what you‘re going to do if you do this?” Yet, I’ve always pushed on past those little hesitations and braved, with the help of my fleetmates, whatever storm my everchanging whims brought upon the fleet...

Developer Gideon Resigns
Posted by TheVirtu @ 4:51PM EDT

Earlier, the one that is often considered the 'head' developer of Darkspace, Gideon, announced his exit and afterward left the game. Gideon was the developer working on the balance patch (1.482), without him, it looks like Darkspace might face a dim future. More information to come.

Images Fixed
Posted by TheVirtu @ 10:58PM EDT

I noticed that a few of the images on the website weren't showing up since I deleted the old testing space for the site, I've relinked those images to the right location and the missing images are back again.

Otherwise, there isn't any Darkspace news to report. Out.
