Post Posted: 08-08-2004 05:35 PM Post subject: Graphics Card for BC

I went to a Sams Club in my home town and I saw a graphics card for $90.It was a NVidia G-Force FX 5200.
Should I get it? I would want to be able to handle Scotchy's Galaxy and CG Sov at a high resolution.

Here are my specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP/MP/4 1532MHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420
Memory: 608MB
Free Disk Space: 5.42GB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP

Feel free to suggest anything else
Thnx

My previous graphic card was a Geforce 4MX 440 64MB, and I was able to run CG Sovereign and Scotchys Galaxy at 1024x768 with no problem.

My current card, Geforce FX 5950 Ultra 256MB cost me about 400 dollars, and I must say it was worth every penny Grin

I think I have seen a Radeon 9600 for that money somewhere and it is much faster. I suggest you try and find something like that.

I think you can get a Radeon 9600 XT for that money, which would be my suggestion to you. Look a little around, you'll find a cheap one. By the way, I like to buy vid-cards on eBay, from sellers with high ratings.

If you want, you can try one of these. They are "Buy It Now", no auctions.

Those are good ideas and I will consider them but I saw a Radeon 9200 at a Best Buy and I was wondering what you guys thought and also I'm just curious but isn't a NVIDIA GForce MX 420 to a NVIDIA GForce FX 5200 a step up from what I have? Confused

It sure Is, the Geforce 4 MX 420 is about as fast as a Geforce 2 MX. The fx 5200 compares to a Geforce 4 Ti 4200, but with DirectX 9. The Radeon 9200 is about as fast as her, but doesn't have DX9. By the Way, the 9200 is the same card as the three years old Radeon 8500 (which I have, and which can still handle EVERY game).

You guys don't happen to know what resolution you can get on Scotchy's Galaxy and CG Sovereign on the FX 5200?

It's "bad" because the card is not good value for money. If you spend a little more, you will be getting a lot more performance for what you spend.

to be honest with u i wudnt advise carrying on with agp at the mo neway, all the hardware producers apear to be making a push towards pcie stuff and so the long term value of an agp card isnt really much any more.
