Post Posted: 09-27-2006 07:55 PM Post subject: Help with getting ships ingame

I've searched and, I guess my search-fu isn't up to par, but I am at a loss.

I've downloaded a bunch of ships and I have no idea how to get them in the game.

I have the BCMP and BCMI, but don't know what I'm doing.

When I unzip a ship, I either notice one or two things...
Either it's a .bcmod file or it just has path folders...

Now the .BCMOD extensions, I used BCMI and installed it, however the ships that just have path folders and to "place them in correct spots" which I've done, but then the readme says to use BCMP to install.

I have the BCMP program, but not sure what to do to get the ship installed. Any one have any experience with this and help a new player out?

------------------------ BCMP\pluggins -------------------------------

If you have downloaded a mod\ship and you have BCMI & BCMP,
the mod\ship does show up there but not in the game
Check to make sure it is targeted to the right directory
eg Activision\Bridge Commander\---------------
if still no ship in game try the "Game Tools' and
make a plugin for the ship

it seems as though sometimes it is forgotten when a
description is written (easy to do)

by using BCMP you can make a Plugin for the ship.

to make plugin

Just start BCMP ,
click on the Icon (uptop) says 'GAME TOOLS'
look a little to your right and down little (see the name.py)
find the correct one for the ship

example::: merchantman.py Click on it
To the right is an item called QB Menu (click on it)
Choose the QB Menu placement you want your ship to be in the game.
(maybe “other ships” , or “Federation” , just where ever you want)
example::: choose Other ship (MENU) for this (ship)
Near the bottom is a button labeled MAKE PLUGGIN click it
and there you go
======================================================================

Habit
it is probably best to get into the Habit, that EVERY time that the game is
started YOU CHECK the mutators, to make sure they are checked

I have found (as time based in my BC learning) , any ship\mod that uses the extension BCmod
to place the ship\mod ingame , it tends to turn Off the mutators, or at least everyone I have installed

I've placed the folders where they need to be. it shows in the BCMP program, I click create plugin, and tell it where to go of course. I prefer my downloaded to go to Other Ships.

But nothing is shown in game. I'm at a loss.

Have you turned on the "Extra Ships" mutator Question

You said you downloaded a bunch of ships. A person new to BC mods
might not realize that not all ships work with each other perfectly. There
might be file conflictions and overwrites that might prevent one ship from
not working and create the black screen of death.

List all the ships you downloaded and from where. If you have the free time,
and the free hard drive space, try putting multiple installs of bridge
commander (with different C:\program files\Bridge Commander BC folder
name). This way you can install a ship while having a backup, in effect
pinpointing the ship that overwrites files.

well I got a few to work.. however.. I think I did it a wierd way..

I placed the data / script / etc.. folders that were in the zipped files in the appropriate places

Ran BCMP, (Game Tools).. it would show up, I'd add it, it would tell me it was added to the game but it wasn't showing up in game...

So I went to "Packager" and found the ships .py file and create a *.bcmod file and installed that file with BCMI, and it worked, but only for a couple of them.

The game works fine, no errors or anything, but I sitll don't know why my mutator button is greyed out, not sure if I have to download anything else either to make it ungrey.
