Ok, here is where you can ask your general questions on BC2. We will start this way and split the topic later if it gets too large.

Ask away.

Note.......your questions will be used to build an FAQ, so be prepared if your question is deleted in the future. We are covering popular questions here to reduce forum OT load.

Alright, it has been a while since I have seen a general overview of the plot, is there anything you can tell us?

And by the way: Thanks for starting this!!!!

From time to time different plot elements will be released. The story is guarded for obvious reasons.

Post Posted: 11-08-2003 02:20 AM Post subject: BC2 FAQ.......repaired

Nother question, will this game have a manual? Or is it to similar to the original BC to have a different one?

There is no specific manual planned, but instructions on how to use the different sections of the mod, as well as tech support will be provided.

OK, a few common questions that I recall seeing (note, I'm not actually asking them, I already know the answers!)

Is there a website for this project?

Not at this time, but one is in the works and will be opened when more progress is made on the mod.

Is this going to be a retail product?

Not at this time.

What ships will the player get to control?

The game will have only one ship playable in the campaign, but qb and multiplayer will have many choices available. Specific ships are still under development, so the list is pending.

Are you going to make a new campaign, or is this just for QuickBattle?

Both, plus multilplayer.

What's with all these new designs for existing ships? Why can't we just have the good old Galaxy-class from TNG?

We are not allowed to use cannon designs in this mod due to agreements made prior to the mod's inception.

Is it true that you're paying people to make models? Is that legal?

Yes, and yes. Paying people for meshes, as long as they are our original designs is perfectly legal. Paying for proprietary meshes (ie: .MOD, .NIF or .SOD format) is not. We only pay for original meshes, and the author can choose to donate a game mesh if he wishes. Our paid meshes are then converted to other game formats.

Will we be seeing any "real" Star Trek characters in BC2?

Yes, but we are still waiting on approval for a few of them, so we will not list a full appearance list until the permissions are secured.

That's all I could think of for now Wink

will the game start calmly with not so mush action so all the noobs can get use to it like a new game use to be or some type of trainingmission or will you get right in to the action (and if enny noobs wish to improve gamplay they can do it in the normal campain.)

There will be a Starfleet Marine Corps Academy training mission to familiarize yourself with the various new ships/systems/tactics. The game starts in a nightmarish situation, so you should prepare yourself in the academy before attempting the main mod.

This will install over BC like a mod, so it might (hopefully) ditch the training missions and get right into the action.

how large will this entire mod be? (the total size of the mod, as well as a fresh install of bc, as i understand that to play this mod, we should have another install of bc to go with it, while we keep our original game, which all of us have no doubt altered to our personal likings...)

Target looks like 2 GB including models. A fresh install will be required to play the mod.

will it be friendly for lower-end systems?

We are currently testing to see how low we can go, but it is estimated that the minimum requirements are 3d card with 64 megs of ram, DX8, Windows 98 SE, 1.2Ghz processor, 128 megs of system ram.

what are the minimum requirements to play this mod decently?

We are recommending at least 512 MB of ram, 1.6Ghz processor, 128 meg video card, w2000 or higher.

if someone decides for whatever reason not to dowload the mod itself, can ships/bridges, etc. be downloaded seperately and played on their current bc games?

Yes. We will release each unit (ships, enhancements, add-ons) as they are made. Only the vids and the missions will be included in the final mod download, though there will be a complete mod available for those that have not downloaded the prior released items.

(i'm sure i can think of a few more questions, which have prolly already been answered... lol)

Here is a good one for the FAQ:

What is Bridge Commander 2?

BC2 is a mod for Bridge Commander. It is a complete conversion of the game, adding effects, new ships, vids, characters, gameplay and a new storyline..

I'd like to know myself really. Is it a "pet project" or is it an attempt to make something that will be sold to a publisher and eventually go retail? Will it be free?

I can't comment on that at this time, except to say that the mod will be free.

Ok. I've decided to go through and answer some of the posts. I'll leave the plot to Raven, since he's the keeper of the script.Wink

Sim Rex wrote:

Is there a website for this project?

Not at this point in time. However, a website is planned for after the first of the year.
Sim Rex wrote:

This will not be a retail product. It's a mod, and as such, must remain free.
Sim Rex wrote:

The player's ship will be the Scorpion. Whether or not it's the only ship, I couldn't say.
Sim Rex wrote:

This will be a new campaign.
Sim Rex wrote:

Due to copyright issues, no canon ships will be included or used. Refits of canon ships are allowed, provided certain guidelines
are met. No more than 60% of a canon design may be retained in the refit, the original name can't be used, and any
design based on copyrighted vessel designs must have a note to the
original designer or the current copyright holder.
Sim Rex wrote:

Yes, and yes.
Sim Rex wrote:

Yes. Lore plays a part. I don't know of any others.

It'll probably be several hundred megs(compressed) once complete. AFAIK, two sets of downloads are planned... a single file for broadband users, and a set of files for those with dial-up accounts.
As you can see from the specs below, we're recommending 2GB be set aside (including the fresh BC install).
jimmyb76 wrote:

Right now they sit at 1.6 Ghz or better, 512 MB ram, 64 MB graphics, AGP recommended, 2 GB space (including BC install), DirectX 9.
We recommend a surround sound card as well.
jimmyb76 wrote:

Yes. Ships/bridges, etc. will be released as they are completed. Keep in mind that some of the enhancements may overwrite
stock files, and at this time, I don't know if those will be released separately.

OK then here is a good question (look at the last mentioned on jwattsjr post) when are some of the ships scheduled for release??

That depends on the modelers, so no definitive dates can be given at this time.

Meh, I'm bored, here's an answer:

Bridge Commander 2 will be a freely-downloadable mod for the original game, Bridge Commander. You will need a copy of the original game to play this mod.

And another question:

How many missions will there be in the campaign?

Thanks for the answers guys, Please keep the questions coming so we can build a proper FAQ for the mod.

Here's my question...

How many people altogether know the whole plot of BC2? (maybe name them all so we can refer to them if Raven is not available?)

Mike Holt, the coauthor of the story, and Roy Tolley, our storyboarder/editor.

Well, not me, but it was supposed to be more than the original game, which would make it over 40 missions at least!!

Last I saw, there were almost 90 episodes in the original sceenplay, which is being adapted for game purposes. Most senior Nightsoft dudes know the plot, Mike Holt and Raven at least. Small amounts and some set pieces have been leaked but are scattered about.

Question, though more like demand. There are many characters in Infinity. We know some canon characters may be appearing if possible but there are specific people appearing. I'd like to know who they are and it written down and posted, also, do you have concepts of their appearence or not?

What about the musical Score? I would suggest some stuff from other Movies. Like the German March from Patton for a Fleet Assembly.

We have someone working on music, and we are actively pursuing permissions for specific scores we desire to use for the mod, including the Terminator 2 theme.
