The main error on it is that the textures were from the tutorial, ie they're from a 70cl bottle. Whereas the bottle I copied was a 35cl bottle which is slightly slimmer in proportions.

That's great photorealism. How long did you spend on it? Got any wires?

I can't render just a simple wire frame of it., it just turns to a blur. But if I remove the excess surfaces, like the inside glass and the inside/outside air (yes, the tutorial says to make a refraction for the air) and then reduce the subpatch level to 1, I can do it.

I was thinking of knocking out some wine or vodka bottles, or perhaps a bottle of coke next to it and a nice fizzy cool glass.

But in the mean time I'm working on this... having trouble. I can't make the liquid pour onto the surface right. I either set the transparancy on, so you get the glowing effect when the caustics kick in or i set it fully opaque, and get it all black or a matt colour...

Right. A much better result. Sorry about the small size, 15 mins rendering time is long enough. I think I'll have to do some smashed glass around this and then finish off the modelling around the splash coming from the bottle neck at a later date.

That last one's awesome.

I've just investigating pouring a liquid from about that height. (bit sad, but I had some water close to hand). There'd be next to no spray from that height, but there would be a bit where the whiskey flows at supercritical speeds, and then there'd be a subcritical transition. The surface would be slightly rippled as well.

Apart from the lack of fluid dynamics, that's looking photorealistic.

Well, the only way around the lack of fluid dynamics is a custom made bump map for the ripples.

I don't think that looks anything like what a pouring liquid looks like. Only very viscous liquids fan out like that. Things like honey. Take a glass of water and pour it onto a flat surface (like the bottom of a kitchen sink) and see for yourself.

It looks more like what you had before, it goes down almost until the surface at a right angle, there's only a very very small fan.
Then there's a thin flat circular area, bordered by a turbulent circle, before you get into the type of flow above.

I'm still working on that. If I narrow the "splash" down a little, then bevel it out to make a ripple, that could work.
