Ok, I started working on the Paladin. I have to flesh it out of course, but this is the very early stage.....

Here is the Paladin. As you can see there are distinct differences. It only looks similar at this stage, but the differences will become more apparant as the mesh takes shape.

I like it Raven. I'm not too sure about the warp nacelle design, but it does fit in with the design style shown so far, so yeah i like it Smile

I like the overall nacelle design--struts connected to the area between the buzzard collector and the blue grill, with most of the nacelle behind the strut (I love that look. It's kind of reminiscent of TOS ships). The nacelles look a bit thick near the front, though. Besides that, this is a pretty cool-looking ship! It's got a nice name, too!

No offense, but is it me, or do allmost all your Federation ships look Akira-esque?

They allmost all have a pod, the 2 pylons, the only diffrence seems to me that 1 has the nacelles up and back, the other nacelles down and back, another has them up and forwards and yet another has them down and forwards...

Thanks.....yes, some of my designs are similar to the Akira....I like the design and the configuration. But I think if you look closer you will find quite a few of my designs do not come close to looking like the Akira at all.

At any rate, this one does on purpose. It is a baby Akira, so to speak. Here are the progress pics.

This ship is a battler....it will be around 300 to 350 meters or so.

It looks good but the nacelles look kinda fragile almost if a phaser or torpedo hit it that it would break off. Overall though I do like this ship it's one of your better designs.

Ok, well, I decided to part away from the flat setup a bit, and came up with this shape. The nacelle booms and the saucer are now canted downward, but the forward cant of the saucer remains shallow. I also increased the size of the deflector to better match. I still need to play around with the poly positions a bit. Here is the progress sofar...

Nice, but the side view makes it now look even more like an Akira! Try making the catamarans flush with the dorsal hull, like in your sketch, while keeping the bridge module how it is now--protruded. Then it should look distinctly different from the Akira.

Yea, i think the nacells were better in the pos they were before.

If you look at it from a top view, the way the nacells are connected to the main hull almost looks romulanesque. (lol if thats a word). I can't how it would look without it tho.

still vv nice ship Grin can't wait! lol

I'm not too sure about how the saucer seems to have been bent down at the sides now. I like how the saucer was in the very first post, and the other earlier pictures. From the front now it looks... Dominion-esque.

Other than that, it's looking really good as usual Smile

Thanks......I brought the saucer down to set it apart from the Akira...it was looking too much like it. It makes it very unique, more Klingon or Romulan like in its configuration. Almost all of the new Federation designs are collaberations with the Klingons, and most of the ships will have features that look klingonish, ie disruptors as well as phasers, hull armor, etc.

ah i have a suggestion!! the saucer seems to thin at the edges. You have the sauce coming almost to point at the left and right sides from the front on view. A real starship, especially one built for battle wouldnt bother 'smoothing out the edges' so to speak and other than athetics technically that design is a waste of space literally. Just a thought.

The pointed edge is going to get a phaser strip all the way around. Not sure how I am going to attach it yet, but I wanted to put it on the lateral edge of the saucer instead of on the saucer dorsal or ventral side.

I dont think so....it is a departure from normal nacelles. I think that nacelles can be any number of shapes, just trying to do something fresh.

lol. I mentioned that in the other thread, but got no response. A fresh look is fine, Raven Night, but I just don't think that looks right. I obviously can't say how a warp engine can or cannot be made since they don't exist, but I just don't think that's how they "could" look.

For example, conventional automobile engines come in many different shapes and sizes, but almost all of them fit a general shape pretty well--a cube; specifically the front (or rear) of your car. I don't know of many cars that have engines that are 1/3 meters wide, while 1 meter tall and 4 meters long.

Just my opinion. As I said before, I like the side view of the engines a lot! It's very original! I just feel they should be thicker.

I think the flat waprengines looks good. it makes them look abit like wings. like if it could fly through the atmosphere and land with the wings folded up like the BOP.

What about extending the arms that connect the warp engines and bringing them along side the ship making it look more like a bird? it would be a change from the normal fed designs.
