I've finally decided to take a shot at this. Its going to take a while though so don't hold your breaths for too long.

I've decided to start on the Nacelles while I work out how to construct the main body. It seems simple enough to do though. I also want to confirm sizes. I heard the main hull may be enlarged at some point so I didn't want to commit to it just yet.

Anyway, this is the nacelle tip. I've added a few bits and pieces but followed the concept best as possible.

Ok, here are some revisions. This should be more pleasing to our patrons here. I have increased the ram viens on the sides of the saucer section to widen it's stance, and reduced the size of the nacelles yet again, increasing the size of the ship overall to remain at the specified length. The nacelle is still as long as a Soveriegn, which is perfect.

Remember, only the front portion of the nacelle is the actual vent.........there is a standard warp core in each nacelle. One core in the Independence (the sep ship in the nose.....you can see the outline if you look close), one in the Sahara (ship under the nose, I may still choose another ship, but currently I am planning on using a Sahara), and of course the Omega core in the main hull, deep inside the ship. This gives the vessel 4 warp cores to draw power from in an emergency, and plenty of power from the Omega core to power everyday operations.

Also remember that this ship has alot of flatish surfaces.......no swoopy lines like on most starships. This ship was a joint design effort between the Klingons and the Federation, so it should look like the designs from both races.

This ship is going to be fun with the ramming script Wink

There's not much changed in that version by the looks of things. It will be sometime before I start work on the main hull. I at least want some simple outlines of exactly how these sep ships go together so I can model them into the versions.

Because the concept is in B&W, I don't know exactly where the Bussards (if any) are or where the blue warp glow goes. I made my best guess and produced the following. BTW, I'm not totally read up on the geeky technical knowledge. Is the blue bit the 'vent' as Raven keeps pestering me about? I though those would contain the warp cores.

Also, if anyone knows any tricks as to how to make this thing look BIG, I'm open, this looks too regularly sized to me.

Here you go...........The vents are the blue guys, the bussard collectors are red.

Maybe you should put the bussard behind the grill you have in the nacelle nose.

Oh, and the back of the nacelle is the warp core ejection port. You can put a single blue dot with two smaller red dots on each side.

Here is the pic. Note the subdued glow from the Independance's vents and buzzards.....when she is docked they are dormant, but can be brought online if needed.

The ship is designed with a warp powered ram vien in the forward hull.....it uses that and a powerful deflector to ram through enemy ships and sweep them out of the way.

The hull is comprised of a selenium/molybnium composite, which makes it extremely tough. It can take 4 times the shock of normal hulls (like on the Sov for instance). It is the same material used on most starbases....

......and it is because of that and the size of the ship that it needs a single core for each nacelle, otherwise it would be too slow to be useful. Currently it is still slower than the Sov, but that will change later in the game........

No doubt it involves powering the warp field directly from the Omega core rather than the Anti-matter warp cores.

I would also like to know how to greeble Fed ships well. Greebles being the small, almost minute details on a hull which make it look better for the uninitiated. With a ship this large, it should be covered in them or it won't look as if it is actually 1.5km long.

Anyway, looking at Raven's recolour, I see what you mean. Though if the vents and bussards only occupy that portion of the nacelle, then why all the rest? Last time I checked, warp cores weren't 1000m long.

I can change the back of the nacelles into something that looks more like a hatch for the waro core eject but I'll keep that piece of detailing there for now and use it elsewhere. Probably under the nacelle or something. Depends.

Changed it pretty fast. There will eventually be somekind of greebling system that attaches the nacelles to the superstructure supports underneath.

The Omega core powers the ships weapons and secondary systems. It is not used for propulsion, as you need a matter-antimatter stream to create the warp field, and this is not how the Omega core works. It creates raw plasma energy through induction into phased plates that surround the sealed core, and the energy is bleeded off and stored in batteries if you will. It is then used to power the ships systems.

The nacelles carry the warp coils and vent assemblies in the front, along with the buzzard, and the core inbetween a matter and antimatter tank on either side of it. Pic to follow........

Here is the pic. This is very crude, but it will demonstrate the basic locations of the components in each nacelle. There are many benefits to having the entire warp core located in the nacelle, not to say the least is that the ship could survive serious core damage or a breach. Here is the pic.......

I second that Wink

You are on the right track......it looks very "starbasey", as it should. This ship is more about toughness and less about smoothness. Excellent job sofar, and the nacelles look right on the money.

And to think, this is the nacelle ALONE. The whole ship is going to contain so many polygons it'll be unplayable in the game.

Not necessarily. I can drop the poly count for the in game model easily enough. If you remember my massive carrier ship, that had 1.5million polygons by the end of it. So far, The Infinity is not even a patch on that but this is only the beginning, there is relatively little detail on the nacelle area.

I also took the liberty of improvising on the rear section. The ship is starting to take its shape, and size. I've added a large shuttle bay, with not one, not two, but 3 seperate doors. I may also add a morph animation to make the doors open and reveal the interior, that would shoot the poly-count through the roof.
