That's looking nice. I made a mkII Viper as a model to be put in game, still have it sitting about somewhere on disk.

More updates.....

Ket me know if anything looks off on it, I posted on scifi meshes and some think some areas are off by a little so i want opinions on if the engines in specific look ok or need resizing. Im aware of the little mesh errors in the smoothing.

With the exception of the occaisional mesh errors (though you've done a good job in sorting them out by your second post) that is a fantastic work. Which program?

Im using 3d max 6, not the most up to date version but i feel comfortable using this version.

for the past 2 or 3 hours im matching and rematching orthos and the tinyest reference pics i can find to make the mesh as perfect as I can and still on scifi-meshes they insist the engines look out of scale. GRRRRR its always that site that finds ONE thing wrong no matter how insignificant lol

Put wings on it. The lack of wings emphasizes how high the engines sit.

LOL glad im not alone in that statement, Ile post my work there and listen to what they have to say and try improve it but if it comes at you in torrents of just Oh this is out of place here and here and that vertex shouldnt be that high up, you sorta get down and out over it..

Like I love looking at other peoples work and wll encourage them to finish it but when u get comments like oh THAT doesnt look right its not being very specific to be honest with ye, especially when u slap god knows how many hours into the work, i belive CONSTRUCTIVE criticism in better than destructive.

The rendering on your last shot seems a bit strange, did you do anything wierd with it or is it just the lighting.

And yes, its fair enough telling you this is out of place and what not, but its hardly constructive. RC, told you something was wrong and gave you a link to improve it. I'm not sure whether some of the SFM guys who are nortorious for this are going out of their way to discourage people or whether they're plane lazy.

And a very good one it is too. Although it's all in the texturing on that one.

I was messing with some renderers for the render i posted last and tweaked the lighting abit, I just think overall it lends itself a little to the mesh.

As for SFM i just got a reply from none other than al3d saying "now the engines are too big and the casing on the centre one is all wrong it looks noting like the ortho graph's"

Meh ile do it my way then, frak em lol like ile make it accurate but i want to enjoy not endure making the mesh, besides if they think they can do better why dont they start one lol.

in fairness to the criticisms on this site, its warrented and accurate advice i get but on sfm the people are just so either obsessed or suffer from obsessive compulsive moaning about the tiniest detail LOL

Ile post some more renders probly tonite when i get my head together i just finsihed a preety shitty shift at work hehe.

more of an update, added those ports on the side with all the greebles, still have to detail it tho, Im happy enough with the main body like its as perfect as I can get it so its staying that way lol might have to tweek the engines but thatll come after i redo the backside of the ship cuse as it is now theres no back to it.

I can't see anything to nitpick in that render from this angle.

I imagine you'll either be doing the underslung pods or the wings next?

Funnily enough, I did the weapons after I'd done the forward hull, and worked gradually back from there.

Yeah Ile be doing the underside piece, but im making it as a seperate mesh cuse i dont want to destroy where ive gotten sofar, I always model everything as a seperate mesh then combine em into one scene and then scale em, much better off that way theres no confusion as to where everything is or how its modelled.

Thanks for the comments lads I appreciate it big time. Smile

lol as soon as you said corvette I knew id outdone mysef lol jkin

Ile hopefully finish the modelling 2moro and start something on the textures. Other than that Ive a tought brewing in my head to make the hanger bay just to give the model something to look good in other than space and stars like. But chances are i will model it and get a lighting setup worthy of displaying the mesh. Interior cockpit is also a thought cuse id hate to just add a black tinted window on the cockpit.

At least put a pilot's head it in, if you tint down the windows you can get away with a very low detailed cockpit (they're a bit on the difficult side).

And just tell most of the people at SFM to shove it. Though I can post Marvin on there and see how many of them leap on it...

LOL its strange you say that, I still post the updates on sfm but I did the model my way and just scaled the engines but casually brushed the comments off. even though ive updated NOT one post other than mine has gone into the thread LOL.

Good thing about marvin is very few people would think of modelling him so people would check it out on curiosity and realise who its based on. Great model thou.

As for the cockpit, I think im gonna go full whack on it and detail the thing, if its worth doing its worth doing right I suppose. Pilots are out of the question tho until i can model people PROPERLY lol.

Actually scratch my last remark bout sfm not posting cuse i got a reply's.

The first reply was a bunch of smileys with nods of dissaproval and saying basically its not worthy of cg status and crap like that

the next was the guy who no matter what what you do to improve the mesh has something like this to say
Al3d
"DUde...the whole shape is mostly out of wak....what can i say"

LMAO ive posted this on boards everywhere and have had constructive crit everywhere its needed, I think ile take ure advice armondikov stay away from the place.

Well, I don't really care about that site anymore so I can go post on there telling them some four-letter words if you like. If I get banned I don't really care.

Nah its cool man, I just visit and post on it cuse its one of the few 3d sites with decent talent, just a shame about how they go on being arrogant sometimes. Least with this site you know where you stand with people like I get on really well with most of the people on this board and they understand that no mesh is going to be perfect which is the bitter truth of it, no matter what mesh or model you do theres always someone maybe even yourself that might want to change one thing on it and it might still not look right lol

I understand what you mean about him being arrogant. lol u really set the match to the fuel this time.

I dont really mind to be honest like another guy hoped on saying that al's mesh is the closest to cannon the public dmain will ever see. WHO CARES im only doing this for the fun of it llike, if u take 3d modelling too serious then ule burn ureself out big time. not to say i condone making innacurate meshs but leway has to be observed for people aswell, no poiny modelling a 2cm piece of metal on a ship no-one will mostl ikely not see like. what u mean about filefront lol what u do this time??? LMAO

Thx for the heds up tho man. did u post your marv on sfm atall?
